On the road…

Last week I accompanied eight clients to the Black Hills of South Dakota. For four days and three nights we had the opportunity to experience some amazing sites and learn about the rich history of the area. As a staff member it was both extremely exhausting and unbelievably rewarding.

After a six hour van ride we spent the first night discovering the town of Keystone. We enjoyed dinner at a local pizza parlor and explored souvenir shops. The second day was busy! Read more >>

Bouncing up the front walk and through the door comes my son David, after his day at Roundup Fellowship!

The grin is wide and full of all the information that he is unable to voice.  Maybe the staff took him for his favorite hamburger lunch–maybe it is just a snack or dessert of ice cream, his favorite.  Or perhaps it is the great game of bowling that he just had with a score of 200!  As he takes time to think, he giggles a little and then says, “Miranda is nice!!”

The activities are many and varied in the day program, from visiting the museum, bouncing on the trampoline, lunch in the park to working in a community garden.  He gets his exercise but interacts with others as he does it.  David, 45, is developmentally disabled with a stronger receptive language than expressive which means he takes in far more than he can give out language-wise plus he has an uncanny perception of understanding people on the non-verbal level.  Read more >>

Change comes in many forms. At St Paul House, it has come in the form of improved self esteem, confidence and attitude in the lives of the boys that currently live there. Much of this success has evolved from the positive team approach that has been instituted in the home.

Kevin K. is a resident at St. Paul House who celebrated his second year at Roundup this past March. Kevin and his family are Colorado natives and enjoy home visits a couple of times a month. Since his placement at St. Paul House, Kevin’s behavior has changed drastically. He has worked hard with staff to find healthy, safe ways to manage anger. Kevin has expanded his interests in music and art while at St. Paul House. One day he hopes to be a composer for bands. His talents have been enhanced greatly by his increased confidence, motivation and the encouragement of staff. Kevin has a unique personality and is a great provider of humor for his fellow residents and staff at St. Paul House. Even after a tough day at school or the house, Kevin always has a joke to tell.
